HELLO & WELCOME!

I really love to create private commissions for people. I find them quite intimate and beautiful. Personalised commissions are great to give to a loved one as a unique gift whether it be birthday, Christmas or anniversary presents or simply just because. They also make beautiful memorials for those who are no longer with us every day. If you are interested in a personalised drawing or painting please don’t hesitate to contact me for a quote. They are gifts and memories that last a lifetime!

I have always had a great love of animals and nature, stemming back to my childhood on a hobby farm in McLaren Vale. There was an abundance of different animals and I learnt at a young age how each animal has it’s own special personality and have no doubts that they think and feel as we do. If your pet is part of your family why not celebrate the love and joy they bring you with a beautifully hand illustrated portrait. Lovingly created from a photograph, these drawings capture the unique character of your pet.

Not only do you receive a beautiful portrait but 10% of the proceeds are donated to a pet rescue organisation of your choice. This is my way of giving back to these beautiful animals and saying thank you for the joy they instil to our lives.

REFERENCE PHOTO TIPS

To create a beautiful, lifelike drawing of your pet or loved one I need the best reference possible from you. Follow these helpful tips to create the perfect reference photo. You are welcome to email me your photos and I will let you know if they are suitable

THE PHOTOGRAPH

I prefer to work from high resolution digital photos. If you are using a digital camera or smart phone to photograph your pet or loved one take as many pictures as you can. Digital photos need to be taken on the highest quality setting on your camera to capture the fine details. If you only have film developed photos you are welcome to scan and email or post the photo to me. Your original photo will be returned safely with your finished portrait.

LIGHTING

Natural lighting is the best lighting to photograph with. An overcast day is preferred as it gives the most accurate colours without casting strong shadows or highlights. If you are photographing on a bright, sunny day, place your pet in the shade. Try to have a contrasting background colour to your subject; if your pet is light in colour, a dark background is perfect. If your pet is dark in colour, a light background will achieve the best result.

If photographing your pet indoors, try to place them near a window where there is natural light. Please do not use the flash.

POSITIONING

When photographing your pet it is best to take the photo at their eye level. This may mean you need to sit down at their level or lift them onto a table. If you are not sure which photo would suit best, simply send me as many photographs as you can and I will be more than happy to discuss your options.

PERSONALITY

When photographing any loved one  try to capture their personality, character and facial expression as best you can. You know them best so keep their personality in mind. When photographing pets it’s best to capture them as they would normally sit for a natural shot. The eyes are the windows to the soul so concentrate your focus there.
